This policy describes how Ecliptic (“the app,” “we,” “us”) handles information. We wrote it to match what the software actually does. We are not lawyers; this is a factual description of product behavior, not legal advice to you as a user.
1. Short version
Ecliptic stores your recurring-charge records on your device. If you turn on Household or Backup, a copy also lives in your iCloud, on Apple’s servers, under your Apple ID. Unlock is a monthly subscription or lifetime purchase through the App Store; Apple attaches that to your Apple ID. We do not operate an account system. We do not run our own servers for this app. We do not use analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell information. People you invite to a household can see and edit the shared records.
2. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to the iOS application Ecliptic: Every $ counts. It does not apply to Apple, to your device vendor, or to any website you visit after leaving a hosted copy of this policy.
3. Information you enter
You may enter names, amounts, billing cadences, next-charge dates, tags, colors, notes, reminder preferences, a display currency, archive state, earning accounts and balances, recurring income (weekly, monthly, or yearly), one-off income deposits such as paychecks, savings goals (names, targets, balances, and planned monthly contributions), and preferred home view. That content is stored in a local database on your device (and, for widgets, in an App Group container on the same device). If Household is on, the same content is synced through CloudKit to Apple’s iCloud and to the Apple IDs you invite. If Backup is on, timestamped JSON copies are written to a folder you pick (typically in iCloud Drive). We do not receive a copy on our own servers.
4. Information the system may hold locally
- Notification permission state, if you allow reminders.
- Onboarding completion, so the first-launch screens do not repeat.
- Pending local notification requests scheduled by the operating system on this device.
- A security-scoped bookmark for the backup folder you chose, last backup time, and whether this iPhone owns or joined a household.
These items do not leave the device through us.
5. What we do not collect
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, payment-card numbers, bank credentials, precise location, contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, usage analytics, diagnostics sent to us, or crash logs sent to us. We do not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not track you across apps or websites. Apple may process your Apple ID and payment method, under Apple’s privacy policy, when you buy a license or use iCloud.
6. Notifications
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device for a lead time and clock time you choose relative to a charge date. Turning a reminder off, archiving a charge, or deleting a charge cancels that notification. We cannot see whether you opened a notification.
7. Backup and household
Scheduled backups write JSON files into the folder you picked; you can restore from one of those files. Household sharing uses Apple’s CloudKit so a second Apple ID you invite can read and write the same household. Anything you send through Mail, Messages, Files, or another app is then subject to that app’s terms. We do not receive the file.
8. Widgets and App Intents
Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, and Siri / Shortcuts intents, read the same on-device store. They do not transmit your data to us.
9. Apple
You download the app from the App Store. Apple processes that purchase, any subscription, and any lifetime license under Apple’s terms and privacy policy. We do not receive your Apple ID, payment method, or home address from that purchase. If you use Household or Backup, Apple stores the synced or backed-up records as part of iCloud.
10. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child entered personal information, delete the app or the relevant entries on the device, stop household sharing, and delete backup files you created.
11. Your choices
- Edit or delete any charge in the app.
- Turn reminders off.
- Back up and then delete data.
- Turn Household off (stop sharing or leave).
- Turn Backup off and delete backup files in the folder you picked.
- Delete the app, which removes the local store from that device (iCloud copies remain until you delete them in iCloud or Files).
Because we do not hold a copy on our servers, we cannot remotely erase a device we cannot see.
12. Sale of data and advertising
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not show ads.
13. International users
Data remains on your device unless you enable Household or Backup, in which case Apple may store and transfer iCloud data according to Apple’s policies. We do not transfer your entries to our servers because we do not operate app servers.
14. California and similar laws
We do not collect personal information from you as a business in the sense of operating a consumer database. Household and Backup copies are stored by Apple at your direction. We therefore do not sell or share such information. Your practical control remains: you entered the data, and you can delete it on the device, stop sharing, and delete backup files.
15. Security
We rely on your device passcode, Face ID / Touch ID if you enabled them, Apple’s iCloud access controls for people you invite, and Apple’s operating-system protections. No method of storage is perfect. Do not store secrets you cannot afford to lose in a notes field. Two people editing the same row at once may overwrite each other; the later save wins for that record.
16. Changes
If the product’s behavior changes, we will update this policy and the in-app copy before that behavior ships. A hosted copy of this policy (if you publish one for the App Store) should stay identical to the in-app text.
